Two exciting things happened to me this week, and they both included tomatoes.
I received a sample box of new vegetable plant varieties from Burpee Home Gardens, and I also received my Gardener’s Revolution Tomato Planter from the Gardener’s Supply Company. Tomato samples and a container to plant them in—it’s kismet!
First let me tell you about the some of the tomato samples I received. Burpee has three new tomato items that are specifically for planting in large containers. These items are called Take 2 Combos. And the reason they are called Take 2 is because each pot has two different tomato plants.
It’s a first of its kind solution for the issues small space gardeners run into—and that is lack of space. Each pot contains a slicing-type tomato and a small-fruited type. Each combination of slicing and small tomato has been trialed together extensively, so these combos are proven to work together well in the pot. The end result is a summer long harvest of both slicing and cherry-style fruits. Growing two plants that get along well in each pot means the gardener saves space on the patio or deck. It’s a great solution for getting a large harvest for those with not so much space in which to do it!
The three combinations available are:
Lights—BushSteak and Patio Choice Yellow
Camera—Homeslice and Sweetheart
Action—BushSteak and Baby Boomer
The three different offerings are meant to be grown in pots that are 14 inches in diameter or larger.
The Gardener’s Revolution Tomato Planter is a large planter that solves several problems for the home gardeners. It has a water reservoir, a slim profile, and a built-in support system for the growing tomatoes. One thing I’m not sure about is whether or not the planter is 14 in. in diameter. I planted up the tomatoes yesterday (with my cats helping, of course) and am looking forward to how both the planter and the Take 2 combos do this summer. Keep following for updates!
