The holidays are when far-flung family and friends find their way back to our homes, and when we enjoy greeting them with open arms. While we often spend time planning holiday parties, cooking festive meals, and finding the perfect gifts, there are things we can do to make our homes feel just as welcoming. Here are a few of our favorite things to make guests want to linger longer.
The perfect bed.
If you want your guests to feel pampered, create a guest bedroom that’s an idyllic retreat. The center of the perfect bedroom, of course, is the ideal bed – dramatic, comfortable and something completely different from what your guests might have in their own homes. Who wouldn’t want to sink into this Bayonne bed by Bernhardt. Add some luxurious bedding and accent its neutral elegance with seasonally festive pillows for some holiday punch.
Drink up the holidays.
Speaking of punch, you’ll need a convenient place to serve libations, but you might not want the bar to become the full-time center of attention in a room. Our designers love the way this Ariana Cheval bar cabinet by Lexington offers easy access to everything you need, from serving shelves to a wine rack and glass storage, but allows it all to be tucked out of sight when not in use.
A peaceful retreat.
For those moments when your guests want to be out of sight and away from it all, consider pieces that create a retreat. Even when space is tight, you can create the illusion of privacy by tucking a chaise in a corner of a more public room and pairing it with an accent table that offers a place for a beverage and a favorite book. (We love how the curves on this Stands Alone dresser from Caracole to mirror the chaise!)
Comfort is key.
Of course, another key to feeling at home when away from your abode is being comfortable. If you chose furnishings that pamper, you’ll never go wrong. We love how this Dixon sectional by Bradington Young reclines which is sure to get your guests comfortable as they are watching that holiday football or movie marathon.
Luxury is a necessity.
Making life’s little necessities seem decadent is a huge part of holiday hospitality. Stock the guest bathroom with some Turkish towels, add a cashmere throw on an accent chair, and put fresh flowers in the bedroom. To carry that theme throughout your guest room, select furniture with an extra dash of style. Our designers love the distressed bronze with subtle gold undertones on this Aziza mirror from Uttermost.
With a little forethought, your home is sure to sparkle for guests this holiday season. Need help pulling your seasonal look together? Stop by any of our showrooms and work with a designer to create a place where Santa will be certain to stop.
